Okay, so since signups for seasonal_spuffy
went up the other day and my WIP is still of the WIP variety I've been doing a lot of writing and brainstorming trying to get it finished. Obviously, this has all led me to go off on a random tangent and start planning an epic post-NFA fic with Spuffy and Cangel and a whole host of characters all flocking to Hell A and partaking in rain-soaked battle and... yeah. Like I don't have far too much other work to be getting on with. Stupid brain.
Long story short, I started googling about the Shanshu prophecy cause I remembered this awesome jokey quote that Joss made about a post-NFA scenario:
Gunn is dead. Illyria keeps fighting. Angel loses an arm. Spike gets Shanshu. And Xander loses another eye, which is funny, because he isn’t even there.
So after revelling in the awesomeness of that possibility (oh, After the Fall
, you had some wonderful ideas tossed into a pretty incoherent mix) I made the mistake of scrolling down to the comments. Here we get the typical protestations that Spike doesn't 'deserve' the Shanshu or that the Shanshu is for Angel and Angel alone. But then I came across this amazing gem which caused me to laugh quite hard:
The whole point of Angel (before the show lost its direction around season 3) was that he would Shanshu and become human so he could be with Buffy forever.
Seriously, random poster? So apparently the only reason Angel ever went to L.A. was to pile a bunch of shiny deeds on a plate so that he could someday become human and be with Buffy. Except, y'know, he already did
become human and had the chance to be with Buffy and turned it down because he had become much more than the mission's boyfriend. Fans like that make me very cranky. But I also appreciated the lulz.
